Good evening of catching some blue fish for the upcoming Jolly Mom Saturday.
Can’t beat a day of both great weather and great fishing! Capt Hook and I took a bottom trip with Forrest Taylor, Brian Richard, and Ben Canady. We started out fishing in about 110 feet of water and caught some massive Bliners! We were only able to get a few, as well as some keeper black sea bass and triggerfish before getting eaten up by sharks. We caught multiple sharks and then decided to head out a little further. We ventured out to 170-190 feet of water and found some very nice grouper! These consisted of scamp, and an almost 30 pound Gag! We were also fortunate enough to have several schools of mahi mahi swim up to the boat. We threw out pitch baits and managed to top off our catch with 7 dolphin! It was a great day on the water! Now is a great time to go fishing! Remember, we offer both Holden Beach Charter Fishing and Ocean Isle Beach Charter Fishing so give us a call!
Over the weekend i fished the Fisherman’s Post inshore challenge with Andy Rogers. We ended up catching over 30 slot redfish and 3 keeper flounder. The last picture is our bag which consisted of a 3.7 pound redfish and a 2 pound flounder. Not as big as we were hoping but the inshore bite is red hot! Call now for a Sunset Beach Inshore Fishing Charter! While we were in the backwater, Capt Hook went on an offshore bottom trip with Preston Kendall, Julie Kendall, and Brian Richard. They caught a couple grouper, limited out on huge B-liners, some big sea bass, and many other bottom fish species. Ocean Isle Beach Deep Sea Fishing is great! It is a great time to go fishing!
Tripp ran out today to fish some bottom numbers. They had a rare catch of an American Red and some big Gag Grouper. It was a beautiful day to fish, hopefully we can get offshore this week again.
Capt. Hooks had a great 6 hour trip today with a bunch of self proclaimed hillbillies from Hickory today. They worked on the Spanish and then dropped some minnows on the 3 mile. All the guys knew how to fish but one stood out in the crowd. He was the lip ripper, if a bottom fish bounced his rod tip, he was in the boat! Great group of repeat clients, we hope to see them soon! We also had another boat fish all the way to Bald Head today. They reported not many pelicans working so they were unsuccessful in their Cobia attempt, but spanish were all along the beach.
We had a window today to hit the stream, so we brought along good friend Andy Rogers. Hit the 100/400 but had no luck for about an hour and half. Then ran to the Macmarlin about 40 miles away. We had no luck there, but we were lucky enough to find a weedline and hit a small school landing 3 of 4 Mahi on a quadruple up. They all were between 12 and 20 pounds. On the way home we hit the bottom fish picking up some Black Bass. The May Mahi bite we have always known might be late this year, it is not on fire like it has been in years past. The Spanish Mackerel are here though near Shallotte Inlet and probably along the other inlets.
Hit the Redfish today in the backwater with everyone catching one for our limit. Also had a couple Flounder find their way into the box. We hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Mrs. Denna even caught the first keeper Flounder!
The spring inshore bite has been hot lately. We have spent a couple afternoons catching slot reds and some flounder. Yesterday, we ventured towards Bald Head to try for a Cobia. They should be starting to turn on about now. We hooked into two but could not get them to the boat. To kill the time we shark fished for about an hour catching a couple sharks, with the biggest being about a 60 pound BlackTip. Friday we are headed to the stream of the weather is still nice.
Conditions were not too pretty for going offshore and with no need to go hard on vacation, the boys took it easy at the house. The Red Fish bite was on fishing from the beach with the boys taking a few home and releasing a few back. They also had a couple chopper Blue Fish too. Not a bad day for everyone here and at home.
