With me not being able to make it up to Hatteras this week, I decided to tag along with Austin Aycock and Davis Julian. We traveled to about 600 feet and started dropping for Snowy Grouper and Tile Fish. After fishing for a couple hours, we decided to head offshore another 36 miles to try our luck at a Swordfish. After spotting a gorgeous weed line, there was no way we couldn’t put out for some dolphin. We trolled the line for 8 miles and picked up a decent 30 pounder with 2 peanuts after getting hammered by small ones. We then tried our luck for a Sword in 1,300 feet of water. About 30 minutes later we hooked up and fought him for about 50 minutes. With hopes still high, we dropped again and sat for an hour. After nothing going on, we headed home. What a feat just to hook up on one of these elusive fish. The Mahi are already starting to bite and conditions are right.
Monday was another slow day for the boys trolling only putting in one Black Fin but getting lucky with a small White Marlin. With that, the boys decided to do a little bottom fishing. They also had a visit from the tax man on an Amber Jack.
Last Saturday Capt. Hooks, Tripp, Andy, and some family headed up to Hatteras, NC to get a break. Sunday started out slow with just hooking a decent Mahi, but loosing it at the boat.
Happy Pi day everyone! We have been away for a little while but we are still busy around the shop even with the recent snow. We would like to congratulate John Cooke and Tripp Hooks for completing their Captain’s test last weekend! Now the paperwork begins for the two. Hopefully a stream day will work out soon, there has been a little bit of Wahoo and Blackfin action offshore recently.
The Trout are chomping! Our boy Brian Richard caught this slob just the other day. Lets put you on them!
We did not get out and fish today but our boy Tripp Hooks got his morning limit of Woodies. Things are busy around the shop with a couple projects going on. If you need any boats repaired don’t forget we can do it! Hopefully we will get a fishing report out by the end of the week.
The Black Pearl took another shot at the Bluefin yesterday just south of the shoals with a couple other boats. We didn’t have any luck with one, but we did double up on Redfish with Preston, Julie, and Hunter Kendall of the Fishin’ Tradition. Who says Redfish don’t love a Ballyhoo? Hopefully we will see these at the jetties soon.
The Black Pearl has fished Tuesday and Thursday and is going to be going out tomorrow on Saturday. Thursday was the worst day the fleet has seen out of probably 50 boats, there was one reported hook-up. The win will be different tomorrow and maybe we will see some more action. Good luck anyone on the quest for a Bluefin!
Yesterday we headed not too far offshore a little later in the morning with the nice weather and hit the Black Bass hard with a couple keepers, one small Gag, and got surprised with a Bull Red Drum. With all the local Bluefin Tuna action going on, we will be heading out in the morning to try for one. Capt. Hook has landed a couple trophy Bluefins in Morehead City a while back and hopefully he can show everyone that he still has it tomorrow.
The boys set out on The Black Pearl a little hesitant after the full moon and with it being Friday the 13th, but took it on. Early in the morning we lost a solid Wahoo bite losing the skirt and all. Shorty after we picked up two small Mahi and set in for maybe one more bite. About an hour later we had a solid 67 pound Wahoo hit. What a fight it was for one of our close friends Forrest Taylor. On the way home we hit some bottom fish spots and picked up some snapper, B-liners, Trigger Fish, and some Red Mouth Grunts. What a great day to bring home some groceries with friends. Let’s get you out there!
