With me not being able to make it up to Hatteras this week, I decided to tag along with Austin Aycock and Davis Julian. We traveled to about 600 feet and started dropping for Snowy Grouper and Tile Fish. After fishing for a couple hours, we decided to head offshore another 36 miles to try our luck at a Swordfish. After spotting a gorgeous weed line, there was no way we couldn’t put out for some dolphin. We trolled the line for 8 miles and picked up a decent 30 pounder with 2 peanuts after getting hammered by small ones. We then tried our luck for a Sword in 1,300 feet of water. About 30 minutes later we hooked up and fought him for about 50 minutes. With hopes still high, we dropped again and sat for an hour. After nothing going on, we headed home. What a feat just to hook up on one of these elusive fish. The Mahi are already starting to bite and conditions are right.
